IT Admin / System Administrator (m/f/d)

Brunswick (Germany)
Full-time
Permanent employee

Your mission

Our infrastructure is the backbone of everything we do at OKAPI:Orbits. As IT Administrator, you are the go-to technical expert for all IT matters in the company. No senior above you, no escalation path upward. You make independent decisions about how our infrastructure runs today and what it should look like tomorrow.

You take full ownership of our IT landscape: from on-premise servers and Docker infrastructure to laptops across all operating systems, Microsoft 365, network security, and long-term hardware and server planning. You'll be supported by a trainee (Auszubildender) who you mentor and develop as part of the role.

Your tasks and responsibilities

  • Servers & Infrastructure: Operation and administration of our Linux servers (Ubuntu), including on-premise services like GitLab, SonarQube, and other tools running in Docker
  • Strategic IT Planning: Long-term planning and evolution of our hardware and server infrastructure. You decide what we procure, replace, or rebuild and when.
  • End Devices: Management and support of Windows, Linux, and macOS devices, from procurement to setup.
  • Network & Security: Management of our network infrastructure, VPN configuration, and implementation of IT security policies
  • Microsoft 365 & Intune: Administration of Azure AD, Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, and device management and policies via Microsoft Intune (MDM/MAM)
  • Backup & Recovery: Development and maintenance of backup strategies and recovery processes
  • Mentoring: Day-to-day technical guidance and development of our IT trainee
  • Documentation: Thorough documentation of all systems, processes, and configurations so knowledge stays in the team

Your profile

Must-have
  • Degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience in IT (e.g. computer science, IT systems administration, or similar). We care about what you can do, not just how you got there.
  • At least 2–3 years of experience in a comparable role. You know what you're doing and know when to ask questions.
  • Ownership and decision-making confidence: You are the IT expert in the company, working without a technical manager above you. You make technical decisions independently and align with management on larger investments and budget questions, so you need to be able to justify decisions clearly and make a case for costs.
  • Linux (preferably Ubuntu): server and desktop administration, shell scripting, package management
  • Docker: hands-on experience operating and troubleshooting containerised applications
  • Networking fundamentals: TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN configuration (e.g. WireGuard, OpenVPN)
  • IT Security: solid understanding of security concepts, patch management, access controls, and system hardening
  • Microsoft 365 & Intune: Azure AD, Exchange Online, Teams, licence and user management, and device management via Microsoft Intune across Windows, Linux, and macOS
  • Hardware: experience with procurement, setup, and maintenance of end-user devices
  • English: B2 or above. Our internal communication and documentation is in English.
Nice-to-have
  • Experience with Terraform, Ansible, or other infrastructure-as-code tools
  • Familiarity with Kubernetes or container orchestration
  • Experience with SonarQube or similar code quality tooling
  • Experience mentoring trainees or junior colleagues. You know how to pass on knowledge without doing everything yourself.
  • German B2+. Useful for dealing with local vendors and authorities, but not a blocker.
  • Background in a startup or scale-up environment where you shaped things, not just maintained them.

About us

OKAPI:Orbits is at the forefront of space sustainability, addressing some of the most pressing challenges of the space industry: the growing problem of crowded orbital regimes, and the need for more efficient satellite operations. We're providing end-to-end solutions that help various space industry players cover their Space Situation Awareness (SSA), and Space Traffic Management and Coordination (STM & STC) needs. We are committed to safeguarding space missions and access to space for all humanity. Join us on our mission.
